Students enrolled in other graduate programs at Iowa State may obtain a minor in history by completing at least 12 credits of approved history courses, with a minimum of 6 credits at the 500-600 level, including at least 3 credits in a research seminar or research-focused special topics (HIST 590), and a maximum of 6 credits at the 400-level (HIST 490, 495, and 498 excluded). All courses must be completed with a grade of B or better.
As stipulated by the Graduate College Handbook, students must receive approval from the History Department, and the minor must be approved by the POS committee in the student’s major program. A graduate faculty member from the History Department must also be selected to serve on the POS committee.
Interested students should contact the Director of Graduate Education in History to discuss the feasibility and appropriateness of a minor.
