Tunde Adeleke, Professor of History and Director of the ISU African and African American Studies Program, has just published Martin R. Delany’s Civil War and Reconstruction: A Primary Source Reader. Delany (1812-1885), an abolitionist and journalist, promoted black nationalism and through his writings influenced figures such as Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War and his papers, edited by Prof. Adeleke, reveal a complex and fascinating intellectual.
Published by the University of Mississippi Press, it serves as a companion volume to Prof. Adeleke’s biography of Delaney, Without Regard to Race: The Other Martin Robison Delany.
