Morgan Clark grew up in Gilbert, Iowa, but after a stint student teaching in New Zealand, she is on her way to teach 8th grade social studies and language arts in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Clark’s time as a dual history and secondary education major at Iowa State opened her eyes to the world. She reports that her history major was filled with “many amazing professors and experiences,” but one of her favorite activities was participating in the Iowa State Undergraduate Research Symposium, where she presented her research from the course “The Historian’s Toolbox” (HIST 3010), which in her case was taught by Professor Stacy Cordery.
“3010 was the hardest but most fulfilling class I have ever taken, and being selected for the symposium made it that much better. Being able to share my work that I was extremely proud of was one of the best experiences I have had at Iowa State,” Clark said.
She also wants students and prospective students to know that “being a history major at Iowa State is awesome because you can develop meaningful and lasting relationships with your professors. Many of my peers did not get the pleasure of knowing their professors on a personal level, and it was never something I took for granted. I would tell anyone who is considering being a history major at ISU to give it a shot! History opens more doors and job opportunities than what we are told. It also has taught me so many life skills such as how to be more analytical and step out of my own perspectives. It is also a lot of fun when you get involved with the history community at Iowa State!”
